Meter testing – precise and professional

We refer to test meters with an integrated source as test systems. Electric meter testing equipment is particularly useful when you need user-defined current and voltage values when testing meter installations, but you only want to use a single device. Stationary and mobile test systems are used for testing electricity meters. Conceivable applications include accuracy testing, single-phase meter testing and multi-phase meter testing. Please consult a professional technician if you want to test an energy meter. Here, we look at your individual needs from your perspective and develop innovative solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into your existing processes. The quality guarantee made in Germany applies not only to products, but also to our professional advice and professional service. Let an expert advise you in detail about meter testing equipment.
Meter test equipment measures much more than just the exact electricity consumption of electrical appliances.

Meter test equipment – The most important features

Test and measurement products include instruments and equipment used to measure electrical and environmental quantities for design, diagnostic, quality control or monitoring purposes. Examples include oscilloscopes, multimeters, test bench power supplies, thermocouple probes, test leads with function generators, barometers, data loggers and sound level meters. We offer a wide range of products for meter testing. From the smallest devices the size of a single-phase meter to customised semi-automatic devices with over 40 measuring stations. The most important feature of an electrical meter tester is the measurement accuracy.

Small annual deviations can lead to large errors. After adjustment, the meter is calibrated at the factory to a predefined standard load point. The measurement uncertainty shown in this calibration and calibration certificate guarantees that the measurement results are directly traceable to the PTB. If you are interested, in doubt or uncertain, you can consult our experts at any time.

Testing of energy meters – Convince yourself of our expertise

In 1920 Wilhelm Cremer founded the Institute for Instrument Calibration and Repair in Königswinter on the Rhine. Soon ZERA became known abroad for its ingenuity and penchant for precision. Over the years, ZERA has evolved from a meter calibration provider to a highly specialised manufacturer of portable and stationary testing equipment for all types of meters and transducers. Our solutions have had a decisive influence on the technological development of meter testing technology. In 1950, ZERA developed the first electromechanical indicator, followed by an electrical meter tester with an accuracy of 0.1%. In the late 1990s, ZERA introduced the first comparator with digital technology with an accuracy of 0.01 %. The first primary standard PPCS for metrology institutes was created in 2008. ZERA meter test equipment achieve the highest accuracy classes recognised worldwide. In early 2000, our calibration laboratory was accredited by the German Calibration Service (now DAkkS). ZERA is an international company with local roots that develops and produces in Germany, but exports more than 80% of its products worldwide. Precision starts with us. We can say that today. We know that the extraordinary success of the past decades has only been possible thanks to the people who have accompanied the company with their knowledge, ideas and passion for quality.

While the market has changed greatly over the past 100 years, our corporate values have remained the same: an unwavering commitment to the highest accuracy and quality, absolute reliability and convincing customer proximity. We know the needs of the industry and our customers from decades of experience. Our engineers and consultants look at individual requirements through the eyes of our customers and develop innovative solutions that can be seamlessly integrated into existing processes. Our Made in Germany quality standard applies not only to our products, but also to professional advice and excellent service.

Meter test equipment – portable devices

Our meter testing equipment meet various requirements. Accuracy classes range from 0.2 to 0.02. When checking meter installations and measuring devices, there is often not enough load on site to obtain reliable results. Our meter testing technology simulates up to 120 A and 500 V. We refer to a meter tester with integrated sources as a test system. Electrical meter tester are especially useful when you need custom current and voltage values for your test meter installation, but only want to use a single device. We offer a wide range of meter test equipment covering a wide variety of inspections (accuracy class 0.2 to 0.02). Our portable meter testing equipment is mainly used for testing meter installations. We offer complete electric meter testing equipment for meter testing.

“Current value” displays the current measured value in tabular form. The tabular display of actual values provides a quick overview for fault analysis. The actual value measurement helps to determine characteristics of mains and meter installations such as leakage voltage, leakage current, current polarity error, symmetry and asymmetry, etc..
“Curve Display” displays the actual values of all voltage and current channels in the form of a curve; at the same time, the voltage and current values of a channel are displayed in the graph. The graph is automatically scaled according to the size of the actual value. The current value of the harmonics is displayed in the “Harmonics” menu. Here you can see whether the current or the voltage is harmonically distorted. The “Error value” (also called “Error measurement”) represents the measurement error of the meter. Here, the energy measured by the meter tester is compared with the energy measured by the unit under test. The energy measured by the test item is measured by a pulse sensor or by the user by counting pulses and forwarded to the meter tester.
