Recurring testing of charging stations with ZERA e-mobility testing technology case

Recurring testing of charging stations is an indispensable aspect in the field of electromobility. Because only regular inspections can ensure the safety of users. This not only involves checking the charging function, but also the condition of the charging station itself. In particular, the functionality, stability and protection against the effects of weather should be checked.

The focus is on the exact measurement of current and voltage (AC & DC). With a professional inspection by qualified specialists, any defects can be detected and remedied at an early stage. This means that users can rely on a functional and safe charging infrastructure at all times.

Advantages of a ZERA EMOB test case:

  • There is no comparable device on the European market (as of October 2023)
  • High accuracy of 0.1 % in related to power
  • ZERA is the first manufacturer on the European market to offer a combined test device for AC and DC charging stations
  • Our devices have the highest possible safety features, from mechanical interlocking to high-current monitoring (see list for details)
  • Combination of test case and "stand-alone" test device makes the test solutions for e-mobility modular and customised
  • Automatic control of the test case via WiFi
  • Guided test procedure via a tablet = step-by-step instructions
  • Independent of the power supply thanks to its own battery
  • The connected Reference Meter is non-sensitive to interference frequencies up to 150 kHz (important in the surroundings of charging parks)

Test case  & test device in one unit

The stand-alone Reference meter from the s2 series (MT310s2 or MT320s2) serves as the test device and can either be operated independently of the EMOB test case or used with any test case from the EMOB series. The test case forms the interface between the charging station and the test meter and guarantees safe handling.

Safety features - all cases have maximum safety features:

Inspection of the correct contacting of the connected cables

  • Detection of the charging cable type
  • Electromechanical plug locking of the connections

All test cases for DC currents (EMOB200-00, -10, EMOB500):

  • Overcurrent detection of the DC high-current pins

EMOB80, EMOB200-00 and -10 and EMOB500:

  • Temperature monitoring of the AC contacts and the DC high-current contacts. As soon as the predefined temperature is reached, the charging process is automatically switched off. It can only be switched on again once it has cooled down sufficiently.

Regular testing of charging stations

The regular inspection of charging stations is an essential aspect in the field of electromobility. Only regular inspections can ensure safety in use and billing of the correct amount of energy. The focus of our testing of charging stations is the precise measurement of current and voltage. Our devices detect correct contacting of the charging cables, overcurrent and have temperature monitoring of the high current contacts. With a professional inspection by qualified specialists, any defects can be detected and remedied at an early stage. This means that users can always rely on a functional, safe and precise charging infrastructure.

AC and DC testing of charging stations

Regular testing of AC and DC charging stations is crucial to ensure the safety of electric vehicle charging processes. These tests can identify potential failures. Therefore, charging station operators or manufacturers should not neglect or ignore these inspections. Compliance with recommended or required testing intervals is an important measure to minimize the risk of faulty charging and thus ensure a reliable power supply for electric vehicles. For such a test, you must be able to rely on your devices, test cases and equipment.

Regular testing of charging stations: Test case for AC and DC charging stations

The regular inspection of AC and DC charging stations is of great importance to ensure a reliable and safe energy supply for electric vehicles. With our test cases, we offer an effective and portable solution for recurring tests at charging stations. Your electricians can thus always work with the maximum care and precision to ensure that all charging stations comply with legal requirements. We understand the importance of safety and efficiency in the use of electric vehicle charging stations and ensure that you can rely on our products. Rely on our experience and use our test cases for regular testing of charging stations.

Our test cases and their features

As an operator or maintainer of charging stations as well as a manufacturer of e-vehicles with your own charging stations, regular inspections are essential. Our test cases for charging stations are:

  • EMOB 32
  • EMOB 80
  • EMOB 200

Test case EMOB32

Our EMOB32 test case is suitable for testing AC charging stations with current measurement up to 32 A (AC) and voltage measurement up to 300 V (AC). The EMOB32 is equipped with a charging plug type 2. The type 2 plug is popular throughout Europe. Depending on the reference meter used, it offers an accuracy of 0.1 (MT310s2) or 0.05 (MT320s2). For on-site measurements, no mains supply is required as the integrated reference meter runs on battery power. The main functions include direct connection to charging stations for electric vehicles up to a current measurement of max. 32 A (AC) and energy measurement during the charging process. The special features of the test case are:

  • Short set-up times
  • Charging cable detection
  • Security check
  • Electromechanical plug locking
  • Charging cable with additional measuring lines (sense)
  • Wide range of accessories
  • Guided test procedure via WinSAM and tablet
  • Independent of the mains supply due to battery operation of the connected reference meter (MT3x0s2)

Test case EMOB 80

Our EMOB80 test case is suitable for testing AC charging stations with current measurement up to 80 A (AC) and voltage measurement up to 300 V (AC). This device is equipped with a charging plug type 1. This type of plug is especially popular in the USA. Depending on the reference meter used, it offers an accuracy of 0.1 (MT310s2) or 0.05 (MT320s2). As with the EMOB32, the application range of the EMOB80 is also designed for on-site measurements of charging stations for electric vehicles without mains supply. The difference mainly lies in the current measurement up to max. 80 A (AC) and the special feature of temperature monitoring of the integrated high current contacts.

Test case EMOB 200

The EMOB200 test case is suitable for AC and DC charging stations, with current measurement up to 200 A (DC) and 32 A (AC) and voltage measurement of 1000 V (DC) and 300 V (AC). This device uses the type 2 or CCS 2 plug. The type 2 plug is popular at AC charging stations throughout Europe – the CCS2 plug at fast charging stations. Here, too, you do not need a mains supply for on-site measurements, as the integrated reference meter runs in battery mode.

The main functions differ from the previously described devices in the combined measurement of AC and DC currents up to 200 A (DC) and 32 A (AC). This test case also has an overcurrent detection, a temperature monitoring of the high current contacts and is also suitable for fast charging stations.
